Kazakhstan is continuing its program to restore the traditional Aport apple variety, which is considered a national symbol.
In 2024, specialists collected 60,000 wild Sievers apple seeds in the Dzungarian Alatau National Park and planted them on a 0.7-hectare nursery. This February, grafting was carried out on 0.5 hectares, resulting in 2,100 Aport seedlings.
The first 10 hectares of Aport orchards will be planted this autumn. By 2027, the total area is expected to reach 110 hectares.
The project is supported by the Kazakh Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing and the state fund "Astana 20", which provides resources for producing high-quality planting material.
The Ministry of Agriculture coordinates the work under the 2025–2028 roadmap, aiming to restore Aport orchards and strengthen research-based horticulture in the country.
