Planasa recently participated in the International Blueberry Organization (IBO) Summit 2025 in Cape Town, an event that brought together global experts and stakeholders from across the blueberry sector. The company also hosted a Meet & Greet in the same week, attended by close to 100 professionals from across the berry value chain, including growers, marketers, and retailers from the region and abroad.

During these events, Planasa presented several of its blueberry varieties that are currently expanding in Southern Africa, including Blue Maldiva, Blue Madeira, and Blue Manila. These varieties have been noted for their adaptation to local conditions and increasing presence in the market.

Blue Maldiva has been recognised internationally, receiving the Best Flavour Award and the Most Popular Variety Award at the China Blueberry Conference earlier this year. Blue Madeira, meanwhile, was acknowledged at the 2024 Superior Taste Award in Brussels. Both varieties are described as producing fruit with large size, firmness, and consistency throughout the season.

Through its participation at the IBO Summit and related events, Planasa emphasised its ongoing focus on berry genetics and its activities in Southern Africa, including Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa itself.
