Role Overview
Responsible for managing the tomato crop cycle to ensure optimal plant health, yield, and quality. The Grower monitors climate, irrigation, and nutrition while leading a team to implement daily crop tasks in alignment with company protocols and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the growing team on-site.
- Climate management to maximize quality, taste, and production.
- Irrigation and fertilisation management to maximize quality, taste, and production.
- IPM management with a focus on biological control.
- Management of cultural practices like harvesting, crop maintenance, pollination, and others.
- Crop record keeping and reporting crop development and any issues to the Head Grower.
- General housekeeping of the assigned greenhouse section.
- Managing the assistant growers.
- Execute crop variety trials.
- Develop marketing supply plans and provide production forecasts to sales and marketing.
- Order material required for production and maintenance.
- Overall control of the operational work of the farm.
- Hire and manage staff and set work schedules.
- Manage certification schemes.
- Manage worker safety and cleanliness.
- Site management.
- Creating master planning and budgeting in close cooperation with the head grower.
- Manage the greenhouse team in a way that balances employee welfare with productivity.
- Fertilizer making and managing the EC, pH, and nutrient values according to crop stages.
- Worker guidance, training for performing all duties (sowing, shifting, harvesting, quality packing
- Ensure and perform proper cleanliness and hygiene measures.
- Assist in the development of the growth strategies.
- Developing SOPs for the greenhouse operation.
Role Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, or Plant Sciences.
Experience
1–2 years of experience in mid or high-tech greenhouses, operating in developing markets, and tomato growing experience
Technical Skill
Strong understanding of plant nutrition, irrigation, and climate control. Experience using greenhouse software and data systems. Ability to interpret crop data and troubleshoot plant health issues
Power Skill
Decision-Making – Applying technical expertise and data to make timely, impactful crop and team decisions.
