In just over a week, PotatoEurope 2025 will open in Lelystad, the Netherlands. Preparations are ongoing, with infrastructure in place across the 25-hectare event field.
Trial harvest results
Jacob de Jong, manager at WUR Field Crops in Lelystad, recently carried out a trial harvest of the Alegria variety. The yield reached 60 tons per hectare, with size distribution showing 34.9% in the 65–70 mm category and 26.2% above 70 mm. The results provide a preview of what visitors can expect during the demonstrations.

From field to sorting
At the event, harvesters from Agri-Poppe, AVR, Dewulf, Grimme, and Ropa will harvest table potatoes. These will be transported by tipping trailers from Beco, Brettmeister, Joskin, Van Ginkel Machines, and Krampe to storage lines, where equipment from AVR, Bijlsma Hercules, Dewulf, Grimme, Spinnekop, and Visser will handle the process. Box filling systems will be demonstrated by AVR, Dewulf, Grimme, Mechatec, VHM Machinery, and Wevano Machinery. For the first time, live demonstrations of optical sorters will take place, presented by Flikweert Vision, MecSistem, TechNature, Tomra Food, Visar Sorting, and Wevano Machinery.
Trial fields and themes
In addition to the main harvesting field, several trial plots have been established. These focus on variety research, fertilization, crop protection, and sustainable cultivation methods, providing an overview of current developments in potato production.
Harvest destination
The potatoes harvested during the event will go to Schaap Holland in Biddinghuizen, which is responsible for handling the Alegria variety.
International participation
More than 300 exhibitors are confirmed. According to organizer DLG-Benelux, participants from 119 countries have registered, and the event is expected to draw over 15,000 visitors on 3 and 4 September.
