The Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA), an autonomous organization under the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Livestock, and Fisheries, is organizing the IV Citrus Postharvest Conference in partnership with AgroBank and the Poscosecha.com platform. The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 11, in Valencia.
The purpose of the conference is to serve as an annual gathering for marketing, industry, distribution, and research, and to provide a platform for discussion among the main players in the value chain.
The event will feature scientific presentations, a commercial and technical review of the previous season, as well as forecasts and innovations in post-harvest practices for the upcoming citrus season.
The conference will be hosted by Vicente Tejedo, Regional Secretary for Agriculture, Water, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture of the Generalitat; Alejandro Tena, Director of the Valencian Institute for Agricultural Research (IVIA); María Bernardita Pérez Gago, researcher at IVIA's Postharvest Technology Center (CTP); Carlos Alberto Campos, Director of AgroBank Comunidad Valenciana; and Alicia Namesny, CEO of Poscosecha.com.
The program includes a commercial analysis of the past season, predictions for the upcoming season, new developments in certification within the citrus sector—including carbon footprint, water footprint, cybersecurity, challenges, and post-harvest issues in the warehouse for the 2025 season. The first presentation is titled "From the field to the table: appearance, aroma, flavor, and texture; this is how quality is built." The full program can be viewed at the IV Citrus Postharvest Conference.
Post-harvest: A key stage in the value chain
As the organizers emphasize, the Valencia Region, the leading citrus-growing and exporting area in Spain, "is also a point of reference in innovation and technological development for the sector." Post-harvest has become a crucial stage in the value chain, essential for maintaining quality, reducing losses, and prolonging the marketing season.
More than 700 participants attended the last edition, including technicians and managers from the main citrus warehouses across all Spanish-speaking citrus-growing regions worldwide, researchers, exporters, specialists from top postharvest supply companies, traders, and the public.
"This event has become an essential annual meeting point for the marketing, industry, distribution, and research sectors, serving as a forum for dialogue among the key stakeholders in the value chain," stated Poscosecha.com, the leading website for the conservation, processing, and packaging of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
