Moroccan avocado exports to Switzerland hit record levels in marketing year (MY) 2024/25, making Morocco the country's second-largest supplier. According to EastFruit, early signs of growth were confirmed, with final figures surpassing expectations.
Between July 2024 and June 2025, Morocco exported 3,800 metric tons of avocados to Switzerland, valued at US$12.2 million. This represents a 2.7-fold increase compared to MY 2023/24 and a fourfold rise from MY 2021/22. For the first time, revenue from Moroccan avocado exports to Switzerland exceeded US$10 million.
Switzerland is not a new market for Moroccan avocados. The first officially recorded shipment took place in MY 2003/04, totaling just 704 kilograms. Exports later reached 100 tons in MY 2011/12 and surpassed 500 tons in MY 2019/20.
In MY 2024/25, Switzerland accounted for 1.4% of Morocco's total avocado exports, its highest share to date after never previously exceeding 1%. The country is now seen as one of the most promising destinations for Moroccan avocados.
Exports to Switzerland generally take place between September and May. Peak shipments were recorded in November and February, with February 2025 reaching 862 tons. In that month, Moroccan avocados captured nearly 40% of the Swiss market share.
Swiss avocado demand continues to expand. In MY 2024/25, imports totaled 24,300 tons, up 14% from the previous year and 29% compared to MY 2021/22.
Peru remains the leading supplier, consistently providing more than 40% of Swiss avocado imports in recent years. Spain, Israel, and Chile were also among the top exporters until MY 2024/25, when Morocco rose from fifth place to second. Moroccan avocados now make up more than 15% of Swiss imports.
In addition to Switzerland, Morocco is diversifying its avocado export markets. In MY 2024/25, more than 1,000 tons were shipped to Canada.
