Potato Europe 2025 draws international attention in Lelystad

The international potato event Potato Europe took place at the Wageningen University & Research (WUR) site in Lelystad on 3 and 4 September 2025. The tents were in place, the paths were laid out, and the 25-hectare harvesting field was prepared for the demonstrations. About 15,000 visitors were expected, according to the organizers.

Given the current potato market, the mood at the fair was somewhat subdued. Nevertheless, it was clear that exhibitors in particular were focused on the long term. The general sentiment on the exhibition floor was that a few good years are unfortunately always followed by a bad one, but that the good years eventually return.

More than 300 exhibitors from home and abroad presented their latest products and services. Visitors from no fewer than 119 countries came to Flevoland to learn about the latest developments in the potato sector.

Over the two days, manufacturers gave various demonstrations and showcased their most successful machines. The large-scale harvester demonstration in particular drew many visitors, who could watch both trailed and self-propelled harvesters in action.

The event highlighted how technology and cooperation contribute to a future-proof sector. A striking example was the potato selection robot that drove through the Noordoostpolder this summer. This application of artificial intelligence helps detect diseased plants early, reduce virus pressure, and save labour.

With its strong international turnout, demonstrations, and innovations, Potato Europe 2025 once again showed that the potato chain is dynamic and committed to progress. Naturally, our editors made another round at the fair.
