"Recently, the Korean yellow melon known as 'Chamoe' has been approved for export to multiple countries. This uniquely developed variety is gaining popularity as a summer fruit alongside watermelon," explained Nick Lee, from Daemyung Farms. "Consumers who try it for the first time often become repeat buyers, generating market influence similar to Shine Muscat's grapes' initial entry."
Korean fruits are primarily seasonal. However, Daemyung Farms is actively investing in resources and technology to extend the harvest periods and improve supply stability. "This year, we have faced challenges due to heavy rainfall and extreme heat. These conditions have led to unstable production and quality fluctuations across our crops.
"Our exports to various Asian countries are increasing rapidly, while the US and Canada remain significant consumers of our products. In the last few years, new markets have opened, especially with the rising popularity of the Korean yellow melon. The growing global interest in K-Pop and K-Food is fueling increased demand for Korean fruits in Southeast Asia, which we anticipate could soon surpass demand from North America."

New export markets
One of the new markets to open for the Korean yellow melon is Vietnam. In addition to strawberries, it is expected that the melon's appeal may potentially rival Shine Muscat's popularity.
"We are currently exploring opportunities in the Middle East. However, we face logistical challenges such as long shipping durations and the lack of direct flights, which we are working to address in order to ensure a stable supply chain."
Deamyung has been attending Asia Fruit Logistica as an exhibitor every year since 2015 and will exhibit this year again in Hall 3, Booth No. 3F55.
