The Haryana government in India has announced plans to develop warehousing and cold chain infrastructure at Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar. The facilities will be managed by the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation and include modern cold storage and air cargo operations designed for horticultural crops.
According to the state government, the project aims to improve storage, maintain controlled temperatures, and expand export opportunities for farmers. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Haryana State Warehouse Corporation and the Civil Aviation Department, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Agriculture and farmers' welfare minister Shyam Singh Rana was also present.
The chief minister said the initiative is intended to connect farmers' produce with global markets while supporting income growth. He noted that the new warehouse infrastructure at Hisar Airport is expected to strengthen Haryana's role in agricultural exports. "Controlled temperature storage and export facilities will directly benefit farmers by ensuring fair prices for their produce," he said.
Districts such as Hisar, Sirsa, and Fatehabad are emerging as clusters for horticultural crops, including strawberries, guavas, and kinnows. Saini asked the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation to ensure that no farmer's crop is wasted and to provide support for both storage and exports. He also emphasised the use of solar energy to maintain controlled temperatures at the storage facilities.
During the meeting, it was confirmed that priority will be given to promoting exports of horticultural and other products from the state, with a particular focus on enabling air cargo services for perishable crops such as flowers and fruits.
