"You know the feeling of a coat that's too tight? It's not comfortable. You then have two choices: Get a bigger one or lose weight." With those words, Wouter Verbruggen opened his speech to the more than 200 guests who had come to the inauguration of Verbruggen Palletizing Solutions' new building, where they were given a tour of the new premises.

After 17 years at Brouwerskamp, where employees had to cross the road daily to check on the newly built palletizers in the other hall and where no extra office chair could be added, the new building at Cuvelier 5 in Emmeloord was officially opened on 25 September.

Some facts:
The building permit was granted on 25 April 2024, and groundwork started on 9 July 2024. The first pile was driven into the ground on 5 September 2024. The building stands on 3,351 piles and covers an area of 14,400 m², which is 3.2 times larger than the previous site. It is equipped with a building management system and an energy management system. In addition, an efficient climate management system ensures 65 percent less electricity is needed, with no gas connection. In total, construction took 1 year, 2 months, and 2 weeks.

Wouter continued: "There are intense years behind us. Rapid growth caused heavy waves, which sometimes made it difficult to stay on course. Just as a ship sometimes takes on water in a heavy storm, we too sometimes get the full brunt. And what then to do to cope with the strong winds? Or rather: to take advantage of them? Sail into the wind and stay on course! The wind of demand for automation has not abated. Almost daily, requests reach us for new solutions and improvements for more speed, stability, and intelligence. To make that happen, we are putting on a new coat today. A new building. Equipped with all the comforts."

Next came Maarten: "We are in a new building in which the art of palletisation will reach new heights. A building in a prominent location along the A6 motorway, with a fresh and expressive appearance. Did you know that the office section on the outside represents a stacking pattern? We have plenty of natural light and transparency. Did you know that you can literally see through the building? This allows us to see each other better and the projects being built. We have chosen a homely office design. Just notice the atmosphere in the canteen (our clubhouse) and the offices."

"The ambition for the coming years is to broaden our target groups and product portfolio. We now have the space and facilities for that, so now is the time to spread our wings together and fly higher. The first steps have been taken by moving from 'Palletising Solutions' to 'End-Of-Line Solutions'. This is possible only if we do our best to understand the customer and each other well. Then those goals, in dependence on our Creator, will be able to become a reality. We have built a sailing ship, but without the wind sent by God, there will be no movement. There is unrest, injustice, and misunderstanding in the world. Conflict and fear abound. We live in an unstable world with trade barriers. In the midst of that, we strive here to create a safe working environment with opportunities for personal growth and development. We believe that if we hold each other well, we can weather storms and continue working together on the foundation that is here now. We have taken off the cramped coat and the tight shoes. We have plenty of room again! The new coat is comfortable, and the new shoes fit like a glove."
