At the Kurmanagazy border crossing in Kazakhstan's Atyrau region, around 150 trucks have been waiting up to three days to enter Russia. The queue stretches more than three kilometres, with most vehicles carrying fruit, vegetables, and textiles from Uzbekistan.
Drivers report worsening conditions, with food and water supplies running low and perishable goods at risk of spoiling. "If we don't pass tomorrow, part of the grapes will have to be thrown away," one driver said.
Kazakh officials attribute the delays to stricter Russian controls, including longer inspections, additional document checks, and new sanitary measures. Authorities on both sides are under pressure to resolve the congestion to prevent further losses.
