Machinery for apple sorting is now also becoming more popular for the sorting of blueberries, says Agnieszka Maziejuk, of Polish machinery manufacturer Green Sort: "Green Sort is a young brand that supplies machines designed to prepare fruit for sale. This year, in Madrid, we will present our well-known apple sorting line in Europe. This machine is rapidly gaining popularity for the sorting of blueberries as well."
According to Maziejuk, the cost of said machinery doesn't have to be as high as one might think. "This compact Polish-made apple sorting machine offers many possibilities for fruit growers. Thanks to subsidies, a relatively small investment allows for meeting precise customer requirements. Importantly, the accuracy and user-friendly software are undoubtedly the major advantages of our machinery."

Thanks to the individual modules, what the complete line looks like is dependent on the client's needs, Maziejuk states. "Increasingly high customer demands for the quality of sorted apples often force even small fruit growers to invest in sorting machines, especially when they work with wholesalers or supermarkets. This latter cooperation model has become particularly popular over the past two seasons. Thanks to the compact size of the individual modules, we can adapt the line to virtually any space, even older or smaller ones. Including the water unloading system, the entire line measures only 5.2 by 5.7 meters."
"The Green Sort optical sorter is a response to market needs. The device measures fruit size and analyzes color and damage. The heart of the machine sorts apples by diameter, color, and damage, with a throughput of 1,200 to 2,500 kilograms per hour. Customers can choose a more affordable version with a traditional tipper or water unloading. From the outset, a modular design was chosen, which, on the one hand, ensures a small footprint and, on the other, allows for installation in a variety of spaces. This makes it an ideal solution for smaller farms."
Blueberries are also sorted with the Green Sort Machinery, which was also shown in Germany earlier this year: "Blueberries first go to the infeed table, and from there to the grading machine. The latter can be mounted up to three times, allowing the line to produce up to three different diameter grades in a single run. The berries then go to the sorting machine, where soft and uncolored fruit are rejected. The machine presented in Germany has a capacity of up to 800 kg/h, but the company also offers a smaller sorting machine with a maximum capacity of 400 kg/ha. The next stage of the blueberry journey is the inspection table, from which they are then transferred to the weigher. Optionally, the line can be equipped with a punnet dispenser and a packaging receiving table," Maziejuk concludes.

Green Sort is already planning to expand the blueberry sorting line with additional components, such as a heat sealer and labeler. This concept is therefore still in development. Green Sort will be exhibiting during Fruit Attraction in Madrid. You can find their booth in Hall 8, stand 8B27.
