Iceberg lettuce aphid resistance highlighted in Twisk

The annual Discovery Field Days hosted by Enza Zaden in Twisk centered on the theme Resistance makes the difference, with specific focus on Intermediate Resistance (IR) Nasonovia Nr:1. Over three days, growers, partners, and specialists from the Netherlands and abroad gathered to discuss current challenges in the leafy vegetable segment, particularly the spread of the Nasonovia aphid in iceberg lettuce.

Introduction of new iceberg lettuce varieties
During the event, four new iceberg lettuce varieties were introduced, combining IR Nasonovia Nr:1 resistance, full Bremia resistance (BL:29-41), and HR Nr:0. The Nasonovia Nr:1 aphid continues to affect lettuce production across Europe, creating a need for integrated solutions. According to Enza Zaden, these varieties are designed to complement existing aphid control tools. Product Manager Leafy Paul Huijs noted: "The new varieties are comparable to our existing and well-performing variety Eduardo. The trials we conducted over the past year are very promising. The new varieties will be available for cultivation by mid-2026."
