British growers have announced the creation of British Carrot Day, an annual event aimed at promoting the UK carrot industry and encouraging higher consumption of the crop. The initiative, led by producers such as Will Hunter of Lancashire-based Huntapac Produce, seeks to underline the importance of carrots in British diets while addressing production challenges.
Carrots remain one of the most widely eaten vegetables in the UK, but growers describe them as a "high-risk, low-return" crop. Organisers note that even a small increase in household consumption would provide greater support for farmers managing production risks.
The first British Carrot Day will be held on Friday, 3 October 2025. Consumers are being encouraged to buy, cook, and share recipes using British carrots, with social media campaigns using hashtags such as #BritishCarrotDay and #theloveofcarrots.
The event follows the British Carrot Growers Association's Demonstration Day on Thursday, 2 October 2025, near Norwich. That event will showcase more than 80 carrot varieties alongside parsnip trials and provide an opportunity for growers and industry representatives to exchange knowledge on cultivation practices.
According to organisers, British Carrot Day aims to increase awareness of the crop's nutritional role, its versatility in cooking, and its contribution to the agricultural sector. Both industry professionals and consumers are being invited to participate in what is planned to become an annual fixture in the UK horticultural calendar.
