The Technology
ÉVO HASS has developed AI software that predicts the ripeness of an avocado — and built a business model around it.
"We couldn't expect the consumer to download an app or pay for it; it had to be instant and effortless," explains Troy. "By scanning the QR code on the avocado, the phone's camera opens and immediately becomes a ripeness scanner. Consumers can simply point their phone at the avocado, whether in-store or at home, and receive a ripeness reading in seconds.
Right now, we're achieving 88–92% accuracy, and this will only improve as the system learns. Other technology exists to predict ripeness, but it relies on hardware. Our unique approach uses software — making it accessible, scalable, and cost-efficient."
The scanner also features an AR overlay character that visually indicates ripeness in an animated way, removing the need for different languages. Each avocado comes with traceability, and in future models, the scanner will even suggest recipe ideas based on the fruit's ripeness stage.
The Brand

The brand operates on a licensing framework: growers and packers sign up, meet strict standards, and benefit from collective marketing, traceability tools, and consumer-facing technology. Licence fees fund ongoing quality assurance, retailer support, and consumer education. Because the model is standards-driven rather than ownership-driven, it can flex across regions and seasons. Multiple growing regions worldwide can supply ÉVO fruit, maintaining availability while preserving the brand promise."
Currently, ÉVO HASS works with two of Australia's largest packhouses and more than 80 growers, giving the brand a year-round supply. Discussions are also underway with Southeast Asian producers connected to Peru and Chile, as well as with growers in China.
